Rensselaer- Edward J. Kappes age 83 of Rensselaer passed away at Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush on Saturday December 9, 2017. He was born in Albany and lived most of his life in Rensselaer. Mr. Kappes was a graduate from Schuyler High School and was employed as a dock foreman for Schaefer Brewing Company. He was also employed by Mobil Oil, Rensselaer City School District and Equity Meat Company. He was a US Army Veteran and a member of the Rensselaer Victory Club. Ed was an active member in Rensselaer Pop Warner. Son of the late Karl and Beatrice Kappes. Ed is survived by his wife of 56 years Eileen Crump Kappes and two daughters Ellen (Timothy) McCabe of East Greenbush and Karla (Timothy) Forgea of Rensselaer. Father of the late Joseph Edward Kappes. Siblings include William (Fran) Kappes, Donald (Millie) Kappes, Robert Kappes, Keith (Sandy) Kappes, Helen Kappes and Sharon Brennan/Hester. Brother of the late Karl and Richard Kappes, Beatrice McHugh and Beverly Stansfield. Also survived by 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the W. J. Lyons Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Thursday morning at 10:00. All are welcome to attend. Calling hours will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-7 PM. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery East Greenbush. The family would like to thank the staff at Evergreen Commons for the care, concern and support shown to us and Ed.
