Donn F. Dykstra

Donn F. Dykstra, 78, of East Greenbush, passed away peacefully at home on February 18, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Rita; his daughters, Erika Mamber and Kristin Dykstra, along with sons-in-law Mark and Steve; his sister, Kathy Keller; and his four grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents, Donald and Eileen Dykstra, of South Buffalo.

A thoroughbred racing fan since his first visit to the Fort Erie Race Track with his father when he was just 6 years old, Donn called Saratoga his "home" track. As an avid handicapper, he shared his picks with followers through his popular horse racing blog. Besides the ponies and his family, Donn's loves included fishing, playing bridge, vacationing in Crystal Beach as a child and on Cape Cod as an adult, and doing the New York Times crossword puzzle, which he completed every day.

Donn dedicated his professional life to education, working in school district administration in Amherst, Rochester, and East Greenbush, New York. He was also active with the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) and taught workshops throughout the state.

A graduate of Bishop Timon High School, St. Bonaventure University, and Canisius College, Donn also proudly served in the United States Army.

His family greatly appreciates the love and support shown by so many neighbors, friends, and extended family. A memorial mass will be held in Buffalo at a future date.
