David Buell

August 10, 1940 — January 25, 2017

David Lawrence Buell, Sr., 76, of Brunswick, NY, beloved husband of Joan (Wallace) Buell for 55 years, passed away suddenly on January 25, 2017. He was predeceased by his parents Robert A. and Nellie (Crannell) Buell, his brothers Gerald (Red), James, and William Buell and his sisters-in-law Marcia (Ludlum) Buell & Penelope (Hoose) Buell, and brother-in-law George Thompson. Dave was born in Hallstead, PA, and at an early age, he moved with his family to Upstate New York. He graduated from St. Anne's Academy one year early as Salutatorian of the class. His six year term of service in the Army included one year in Korea. Dave was a jack of all trades, spending time in multiple fields of work, including postal worker, carpenter, fireman, and auto mechanic. He was the Principal of Liberty Christian Academy and finally, the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds for Wynantskill Union Free School District, retiring after 20 years of service. Dave was a humble man who would do anything for anyone; soft-spoken and wise, he could be counted on to know what to do, how to do it, and when to do it, and be there to help do it. He loved John Wayne movies, and he loved to laugh, enjoying The Three Stooges, Peter Sellers' Pink Panther, and Looney Tunes cartoons...the old ones, that were actually funny. He trusted Christ as his personal Savior in 1970. He gave of his time and talents to God, serving as Deacon and Treasurer for the First Bible Baptist Church for many years. Besides his wife Joan, Dave is survived by his five children: Brenda and husband Charles Fensterer of Waterford; David (Jr) and wife Lisa of Hancock, MA; Sandra and husband George Hadden of West Sand Lake; Mimi and husband Timothy Knibbs of Southington, CT; Susan and husband Daniel "Marty" Hurley of Brunswick; his grandchildren: Alexander Buell and wife Taylor, Charles, Timothy, and Aaron Fensterer; David III, Ethan and Daniel Buell; Joan (Joanie), Emily and George (Georgie) Hadden; Sarah, Leah, Lydia and Timothy Jr. Knibbs; Eva and Cole Hurley; his great-grandchildren Mia, Giada and Valentina Buell; his siblings and their spouses: Red's wife Shirley, Leo & Irene Buell, Charles Buell, Robert & Carina Buell, Jerome & Retta Buell, Jim's wife Eileen, Rose & Ron Romano, Herbert Buell, Betty & George Johnson, Donald & Doreen Buell; Sisters-in-law Janet & Don Olmsted and Kathy Thompson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer, NY. Funeral will be 11 a.m. on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the First Bible Baptist Church, 4331 Rte 150, West Sand Lake, NY. Those who wish may gather at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Chestnut Lawn Cemetery in Ravena, NY. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him. Memorial donations may be made to the First Bible Baptist Church.
