Charles A. Mara, of East Greenbush, NY passed away peacefully at The Community Hospice Inn on March 7, 2018, on the thirty-first anniversary of his wife's passing. He was born on December 31, 1932 in Pittsfield, MA and resided there until marrying Gert in 1953. Chuck was a sheet metal worker with Local Union 83 in the Albany area for over 30 years. He capped off his career as Business Agent for the Local. Chuck lived for his family and enjoyed spending time with them at camp on the Great Sacandaga Lake. Chuck was predeceased by his wife Gert "Toots", and by his grandson, Brian Cruden. He is survived by his son, Joseph (Lorraine), and two daughters, Barbara Cruden (George) and Jill Macdonald (Ridgewood) and three grandchildren, Nicholas Cruden, Michelle Cruden and Adam Macdonald. Brother of Nanette Vuillemot, Margaret MacDowell and the late John Mara, Natalie Mara and Betty Sheltry. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Monday at 12 PM. Relatives and friends are invited and may call prior to the service Monday from 10-12PM. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Rensselaer, following the service. Donations may be made in memory of Charles Mara to the Bernard & Millie Duker Children's Hospital, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Albany Medical Center, c/o Albany Medical Center Foundation, P.O. Box 8928, Albany, NY 12208 or online at https://community.amc.edu/givenow. The NICU cared for Chuck's grandson, Brian, thirty four years ago.
