Albert Scheibly

September 28, 1946 — March 5, 2017

Las Vegas, NV- Albert J. Scheibly, Jr. (retired USAF) age 70 of Las Vegas, died suddenly on Sunday, March 5, 2017 while vacationing in Florida. Born Sept. 28, 1946 to the late Albert J. Sr. and Kathleen Halleran Scheibly. Al grew up in Rensselaer and was a proud graduate of St. John's Academy and Hudson Valley Community College before entering the United States Air Force in 1967. While serving in the Air Force, he received his bachelor's degree from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. He proudly served in Thailand during the Vietnam War. Upon returning to the United States, he was selected to serve on the elite US Air Force Demonstration Team, The Thunderbirds, where he served from 1971-1973. He was stationed in various locations in Europe, the Philippines and the USA before his retirement in 1987. He settled in Las Vegas and was employed by Scenic Airlines refurbishing military airplanes to be used as sight seeing tour planes. Al ended his employment as a bank currier for The Bank of Nevada. He is survived by his two sisters Mary Ellen Scheibly and Joanne Scheibly, both of Rensselaer; his longtime companion Connie Bruggerman of Las Vegas; friends William and Maureen Martin of Las Vegas and Don and Billie Petet of Idaho. Funeral from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer, Saturday, March 18th at 10AM and 11AM at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church, Herrick Street, Rensselaer where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Friday, March 17 from 4-7PM. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush. Those wishing to remember Al in a special way may make a memorial contribution to The Disabled American Veterans, P O Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 14301 Or to the Sisters of Mercy Retirement Fund, 634 New Scotland Avenue, Albany, NY 12208.
